Prisoner of Conscience
© 2017 Carl Goulet; ASCAP

I was fearless, I was bold
But I paid dearly for the truth I told
For the danger’s always near
To say aloud what no one wants to hear

But darkness falls apart
By the light of an honest heart
Far away from the crowd
Far away from where it always gets too loud
Far from the noise of the human race
I will shout from a quiet place

It’s an option, it’s a choice
Ignore or listen to that still, small voice
And if conscience comes from love
That’s the thing they make examples of

When the world is built on lies
It should burn your open eyes
Far away from the crowd
Far away from where the music plays too loud
Far from noise of the human race
I will shout from a quiet place

So they feed me once a day
But I’m not hungry anyway
As a payment for my crime
All my echoes fade away in time

I’ll be one forgotten name
If it all just stays the same
Far away from the crowd
Far away from where it always gets too loud
Far from the noise of the human race
I will shout from a quiet place
I’ll be kept in a quiet place
I will stay in the quiet
